SketchPoint 2 – Vadian-Denkmal

Vadian’s View of the Collegiate Church

Even today, more than 500 years later, the reformer and former mayor still looks out over the Catholic monastery, whose towers were positioned along the visual axis toward Marktgasse. This is likely the most fascinating view in the city. In Vadian’s time, the town hall still stood next to the Vadian monument. The Catholic collegiate district, including the collegiate church, was later separated from the Reformed town by a monastery wall. The gate could only be opened by mutual agreement using the two keys, one of which was held by the mayor and the other by the abbot.
