SketchPoint 1 – Waaghaus
Venue for the USK Symposium 2026
The Waaghaus has several striking features. The first thing that catches the eye are the large entrance gates on the ground floor, which were likely originally used by carts. The ground slopes slightly toward the east and is paved. The east and west facades are topped with stepped gables.
On the west facade, there are two rows of windows above the ground floor. The two middle windows are particularly large and were formerly equipped with a hoist crane, which made it possible to store large bales of linen and other loads on the upper floor. At the very top is a large clock with a moon phase display, and above it a ridge turret with an onion dome. These elements originate from the old town hall, which was demolished in 1877.
