Róisín Curé

Róisín lives on the west coast of Ireland, in the countryside near Galway. Urban sketching is her passion and her job, and she loves to spread the joy. Her aim is to capture the beauty in the everyday. She is the author of two bestselling books on urban sketching, one about Galway and the other in The Urban Sketching Handbook series, called Drawing Expressive People. She teaches live sketching classes four times a week: as a self-taught sketcher, she believes sketching is for everyone!

«Catch Them Off Guard!» – People, Proportions and Poses In Cafés and Coffee Shops

Sketching people sitting at a café table is made easier by a few factors: they won't move for a while, they are relaxed and unlikely to notice you and you only have the top half to draw! There are always interesting things to draw on the tables, and just a few poses will cover most people. By breaking the scene into planes, starting in the foreground and working backwards, you will take each line step by step. In this workshop we will look at poses, proportions, hair and and skin tones, and you will gain confidence for capturing people out and about.

Material:
While I will use a fude pen with waterproof ink and watercolour, the students should bring their favourite sketching tools, whether pencils, pens or other media. I recommend an A5 portrait sketchbook but any small sketchbook is fine.
