Urban landscapes

Buildings, trees, cars, people, traffic signs… the typical urban landscape is visually complex and diverse. Can we capture all those details in a drawing? Luckily, we don’t have to. Reduction and simplification let us tell the story that really matters to us. The goal of this workshop is to overcome our anxiety when drawing complex scenes. We practice some composition rules and learn to identify the visual elements that add the most relevant information with the least number of lines. Multiple short exercises will allow us to explore the place from multiple angles.

Material:
For the first part of the workshop we will need one or more tools that can draw fast, loose lines with variable thicknesses (soft pencil, fountain pen, markers, graphite bars, crayons …). As the workshop progresses, all media are welcome. A folding chair is not essential but advisable.
