Workshop language: French (English translation possible)
The aim of this workshop is to understand how to choose what to draw and what to leave out, in order to effectively represent a space, a city. Much of this is done at the outset, when choosing the composition and important lines of the image. We try to find a strong graphic idea. Once the axis of the image is clear, the following choices are made naturally. We'll look at a few techniques and principles of line drawing to make the representation of space effective and fun.
Key skills:- Understand how to choose what to draw and what not to draw, based on a graphic idea, and visual interest detected by moving around a location.
- Learn how to move from a few skeletal lines or a strong idea to small compositional sketches, then to a confident, lively line drawing in ink.
- Learn several techniques for effective, fun drawing: lines to emphasize volumes, textures to create values, importance of silhouettes, perspective lines for depth, size relationships between shapes, etc.
- Sketchbook or watercolor paper. I will draw personally on A3 format.
- Small notebook or sketchbook for drafts
- Grey pencil, eraser
- Fineliners or fountain pen with waterproof ink
- Waterproof pen with variable line thickness, e.g. Tombow Fudenosuke or Kuretake Bimoji Fude Pens
- Watercolors and brushes
