André Kaname Kano

André Kano was born in S. Paulo, Brazil in 1953. Strongly influenced by his father’s chosen profession as a painter, he showed a remarkable talent for drawing at an early age. Before departing Brazil, Kano held positions as both an illustrator and a graphic designer, roles he maintained upon arriving in Portugal in 1989. Despite his professional focus in the area of graphic design, André Kano never quite forgot that his true passion was for painting. It was through this activity that he was enabled to break free of the creative constraints imposed by his professional life. The result was a sense of creative freedom allowing his imagination to flow. This creativity manifested itself through the interplay of colour, rhythm, textures, and the manipulation of light, aiming to capture experiences beyond the limitations of the senses.
"My life as a watercolorist began 5 years ago initially as an urban sketcher. It was a time of discoveries and improvements until I got to where I am. Drawings of urban areas taught me a lot of what I apply today in my watercolors and I think that these two aspects are closely linked to each other. I intend to use this interconnection to make an even more intense fusion."
