Sarai Aleman

My name is Sarai (a.k.a. el Pez melon in social media) and I've been an urban sketcher since 2017, when I opened my first sketchbook and started drawing the world around me. In 2020, I published my first book “El Baix Empordà dibuixat”, a compilation of the drawings I had been doing in the last three years of the Costa Brava ́s villages, the place where I am lucky to live. After the publication of my book, some people started to ask me to teach them my way of drawing, and that's how I became an instructor of Urban sketching, and I began to offer workshops to share my knowledge.

In my classes I try to teach everything that is involved in drawing as an urban sketcher, but my real specialty is color. Two years ago, I published a manual of colors for watercolors, which I have been working on with my students. In this time, my work has been evolving more and more in experimenting with color, and I have started to apply it in my work as an urban sketcher, and as an illustrator

Connecting with nature: Illustrating trees

Workshop language: English

This is a workshop to practice the observation of nature, and the unique shape of trees. After a brief walk around the trees, we will let our attention rest on the one that inspires us the most. The experience is divided in two parts: first, we will work on the drawing, using a technique called "crosshatching" to create the volume of the trees. Later, when the shape is finished, we will freely experiment with color, using watercolors, creating beautiful color schemes. This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to slow down, connect with nature and enjoy playing with colors.

Suggested material:

  • Ballpoint pen (much better if they bring different colors). Calibrated markers like Micron will be ok too.
  • Watercolors
