Workshop 12 (English): 19. September, 14:00-17:00
Big Shapes and line detail
The students in this workshop will learn how to use areas of colour, line detail and blank space to construct an urban sketch with fineliners and watercolour. In the spirit of "less is more" I will encourage students to make each mark count by stressing the importance of accuracy and economy.
In this workshop, I hope to explain and share the methods that help me create sketchbook images when drawing on location. Often when I sketch, the view in front of me can be busy and complicated and knowing where to start can seem daunting.
Starting boldly with big watercolour shapes (for example areas of colour, shadow or form) helps lay the foundations for a successful piece. As I strongly believe that there is no particular right or wrong way to draw, the aim of this workshop is to offer students the chance to acquire new techniques that could be used as weapons in their drawing arsenal.
