The 1st Swiss Urban Sketchers Symposium will be held in Zuoz, 20.-22. September 2019. Sketchers of all levels, experience, and backgrounds are welcome.

There will be plenty of opportunities to draw together, attend workshops, exchange ideas and meet other urban sketchers.

Program

Three days full of inspiration

This September, the first Swiss USk Symposium will take place in the Engadine from Friday noon to Sunday noon. Unfortunately there will only be a limited number of 50 sympoisum passes available.

Tough in addition to that we plan a public Sketchcrawl event in Zuoz and would like to invite all interested Urban Sketchers to join us and to close the event together in the Lyceum Alpinum.

The Lyceum Alpinum

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz is a boarding school in Switzerland (near St. Moritz) for over 100 years. 200 internal pupils from all over the world as well as 100 external pupils from the region are prepared for the Matura from the 7th to the 12th grade.

We are very grateful that we were able to win the Lyceum as partner and venue for the first Swiss USk Symposium.

Where to stay

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz offers accommodation and meals (half board) for 40 participants. These can be booked with your registration. Alternatively, there are several hotels in Zuoz.

We invited well reputated Urban Sketchers Rolf Schröter from Germany and Vincent Desplanche from France to the Engadine. Sketchers from Switzerland will offer further workshops.

Workshops will be hold in German, one workshop will be hold in French and two in English.

We want to create a visual report of our experience on a place in a time. We will practice skills, to compose a drawing out of spontaneous captures and go for it as a joyful adventure.

We will be sketching mountains. As they are the perfect place to learn or improve all the fundamentals of sketching: observation, analysis, space, composition, line work, volume, light and textures.

We will focus on telling stories, by bringing life into our sketches and enriching them adding elements as people, animals, cars and other details.

We will learn to plan a picture and a composition. What should we take into account to achieve an exciting composition and where to consciously set an image center.

We can create high-contrast colors with black and white images. We will concentrate on how setting highlights, shadows and depth.

We will we will set off with open eyes on a discovery tour and look out for characteristic subjects of this fascinating mountain world and we will try to collect as many impressions as possible.
